Blueprint Implementation

Implementation phase of the Transforming Maternity Care project

Childbirth Connection's Transforming Maternity Care project has collaborated with stakeholders from across the health care system to

With the January 2010 release of "Blueprint for Action" and other core products from this work, the Transforming Maternity Care project has reached its implementation phase, focused on carrying out the Blueprint’s priority action steps.

At present, there is unprecedented will in the United States for health care quality improvement. While omnibus "health care reform" is challenging, the many members of the National Priorities Partnership and other groups have been and will continue to be hard at work with new tools, resources and strategies for addressing the recognized deficits. In this context, many groups and individuals who have been involved with the Transforming Maternity Project since 2007, and others who are joining this effort, are actively focused on Blueprint recommendations or are seeking partners and resources for getting started.

Childbirth Connection invites organizations, agencies and individuals from across the health care system to join in tackling sections of the Blueprint that are relevant to their work and interests. We encourage partnerships with Childbirth Connection and also would appreciate knowing about independent efforts to carry out Blueprint strategies. We would be pleased to share what we have learned to support those efforts.

Please contact the Transforming Maternity Care Project Director, R. Rima Jolivet, to discuss partnerships, share your efforts, and learn more about this project: jolivet {at} childbirthconnection.org

The magnitude of the present challenges present an abundance of opportunities for big leaps forward. We are immensely grateful to the many individuals from so many different segments of the health care system who have provided their experience and wisdom to show the clear way forward to needed substantial improvement.

Why not review the Blueprint today and find one or more areas for you and your colleagues to work on? Health professionals, hospitals, insurers, women and families, and other stakeholders can all make important, and needed, contributions.
