![]() Labor Pain Symposium Steering CommitteeA multi-disciplinary Steering Committee of national leaders was convened to plan and carry out The Nature and Management of Labor Pain: An Evidence-Based Symposium and to provide guidance on subsequent publishing of commissioned papers. The group worked together and made substantive decisions over a two-year period. It worked to ensure that the papers would offer a panoramic view of the field, would summarize the best research currently available and minimize bias, and would address needs and interests of childbearing women and their families. The Committee issued an Executive Summary (click for PDF) describing the rationale for the project, processes and methods used, and main results and implications of the papers. Collectively, Steering Committee members provided expertise in anesthesiology, bioethics, childbirth education, consumer advocacy, epidemiology, journalism, labor support, midwifery, neonatology, nursing, obstetrics, pediatrics, physical therapy, and public health.
